BNI is the largest business referral organization in the world

There are over 3600 chapters in 20 countries world-wide. BNI was started in 1985 by Dr. Ivan Misner, a management consultant who specialized in strategic planning and organizational development. As a business consultant, Dr. Misner received most of his business through referrals. However, he was not happy with the type of business referral groups that existed. So he decided to form one that he felt was structured, focused on doing business, and had an emphasis on positive reinforcement and support.

BNI is different from other business groups

With BNI, only one person per business classification is allowed to join a chapter. At chamber of commerce, rotary clubs, and professional association events, any number of attendees can offer overlapping products and services. In BNI, members never compete with one another for quality referrals.
